On July 3, 2026, the A.K. Kussayinov Eurasian Humanities Institute hosted a round table entitled “The New Constitution as the Foundation for Sustainable Development.” The event brought together the Rector of the Institute, N.T. Nygymanova, vice-rectors, heads of structural divisions, and members of the academic staff.
The discussion focused on the strategic priorities enshrined in the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and their impact on the development of higher education and science.
Rector N.T. Nygymanova noted that the new Constitution, adopted through the national referendum held on March 15, 2026, officially came into force on July 1, 2026. She emphasized that, for the first time, human capital, education, science, and innovation have been constitutionally recognized as strategic priorities of the state. According to the Rector, these constitutional changes will serve as the foundation for updating the Institute’s development strategy.
Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation S.A. Eskaliyev highlighted the importance of the new Constitution in promoting a knowledge-based economy driven by education, science, and innovation.
Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor K.A. Akhmetov addressed the constitutional provisions concerning religion, the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, the protection of human rights, and the role of the Qurultay as a new governing leadership. Head of the Department A.S. Makipov emphasized that education, science, and innovation constitute the three fundamental pillars of the country’s sustainable development.
Director of the Institute of Continuing Education R.R. Zhayeva spoke about the importance of lifelong learning, continuous professional development, and updating educational content to meet the evolving demands of the labor market.
Head of the Department of Quality Assurance and Professional Competencies B.K. Akshulakova highlighted the establishment of Centers for Enhancing Teachers’ Professional Competencies, the integration of science, education, and industry, as well as new mechanisms for supporting regional research, noting that these initiatives will significantly strengthen the country’s scientific potential.
During the discussion, participants also exchanged views on the introduction of the new course “Adil Azamat” into academic programs, the changing demands of the labor market, and the new constitutional provisions regulating the citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the conclusion of the round table, participants emphasized that the new Constitution establishes a solid legal foundation for the development of human capital, science, and higher education while reinforcing the role and responsibility of higher education institutions in ensuring the sustainable development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
